You Are A Badass, by Jen Sincero

You Are A Badass, by Jen Sincero

Easy to read. Really funny and sometimes cringy. Combines memoir with how-to-change-your-life strategies. I use this book at least once a week as an encyclopedia of the core, time-tested approaches to creating positive, lasting life changes.  When it comes to the sometimes-overwhelming task of taking action (i.e. Where to start?) Jen Sincero makes the complex very simple.  She outlines the basics one-by-one of how she went from couch surfing to becoming a world-travelling bosslady unapologetically living life on her own terms.  What I love the most is that this book has everything in one place—readers can sample most of the fundamental techniques for self-growth and discovery.  It’s like a tapas bar of “self-helpery” (which is one of her super useful, invented words).  She uses humor to demystify the central, critical steps to getting unstuck and growing.  Critics of the book point out that “she doesn’t say anything new” here, and I think that’s kind of the point.  She doesn’t attempt to reinvent the wheel here—in terms of content—instead, she reimagines the tone of how a book like this can feel, with chapters like “Gratitude: The Gateway Drug to Awesomeness” and “Doing vs. Spewing”. I love this book.
